My Family Rants

Dairy Allergy???

Posted on: December 17, 2008

Now my daughter, just over 6 months old has also developed hives.  Of course a phone call to the doctor will be in order, but in the meantime I am going to try switching her formula for a day to a soy based formula instead of cows milk.

My son at about the exact same age, developed pretty much the exact same skin rash, and was fine once we took him off the cow’s milk formula.

Now I guess the question is which brand on the market today is superior?  There is Enfamil A+

“If you are looking for an alternative to milk-based formulas, try Enfamil® Soy A+®.  It is soy-based, milk-free and lactose-free and does not contain any added sucrose (table sugar). Now enriched with LIPIL®, our blend of DHA and ARA (Omega 3 and 6).”

Or there is Isomel by the makers of Simulac.  They list their ingredients as:

Powder*
43.2% Corn Syrup Solids, 14.6% Soy Protein Isolate, 11.5% High Oleic Safflower Oil, 10.3% Sugar (Sucrose), 8.4% Soy Oil, 8.1% Coconut Oil. Less than 2% of the following: Calcium Phosphate, Potassium Citrate, Potassium Chloride, Magnesium Chloride, Sodium Chloride, Ascorbic Acid, Choline Chloride, L-Methionine, Taurine, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Ferrous Sulfate, m-Inositol, Mixed Tocopherols, Zinc Sulfate, d-Alpha-Tocopheryl Acetate, L-Carnitine, Niacinamide, Calcium Pantothenate, Cupric Sulfate, Thiamine Chloride Hydrochloride, Vitamin A Palmitate, Riboflavin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Folic Acid, Potassium Iodide, Potassium Hydroxide, Phylloquinone, Biotin, Sodium Selenate, Beta-Carotene, Vitamin D3, and Cyanocobalamin. (FAN 9388-15)
Contains soy ingredients.

“Corn Syrup Solids”; that is the main ingredient…….isn’t that just sugar????  What the hell are we feeding our children anyways?
